Running Rail – Bringing Safety, Reliability and Clarity to Rail Infrastructure Online
When Running Rail Ltd came to me to build their website, they had a clear mission — to communicate their decades-long experience in rail civils, cable management, vegetation clearance and utilities, and to present themselves as a trusted, professional partner for infrastructure clients across the UK. The result is a clean, purposeful website that reflects their values of quality, safety, and collaboration.
The Challenge
Running Rail operates in a highly specialised sector — rail infrastructure and civil engineering. Their audience includes large infrastructure clients, contractors, and stakeholders who care deeply about safety, compliance, and professionalism. The previous digital presence (or lack thereof) didn’t reflect the true depth of their expertise.
They needed a website that would:
-
Clearly articulate their four core services: Civil Engineering, Cable Management, Vegetation Clearance, and Utilities.
-
Build trust by highlighting their long-standing experience, safety-first approach, and track record working with major clients like Network Rail and London Underground.
-
Present complex information in a way that is both professional and easy to digest for non-technical stakeholders.
-
Provide clear contact pathways for potential clients — from large infrastructure companies to contractors looking for reliable rail-industry support.
The Solution
I approached the design and build with a strategy rooted in clarity, simplicity, and trustworthiness. Key aspects of the final design include:
-
Clear service breakdown: Right on the homepage, the four core areas (Civil Engineering, Cable Management, Vegetation Clearance, Utilities) are prominently listed, each with a short description. This ensures that visitors immediately know what Running Rail offers.
-
Professional yet approachable aesthetic: The layout, typography and imagery balance engineering professionalism with readability — suitable for both technical clients and senior decision-makers.
-
Emphasis on experience & reputation: By highlighting that Running Rail has “more than 25 years of combined project experience” and has worked with major rail and infrastructure clients, the site builds credibility and confidence.
-
User-friendly navigation & CTAs: Clear navigation ensures users can quickly find the information they need. A “Get In Touch” CTA is present in strategic places — making it easy for potential clients to reach out.
-
Responsive & future-proof structure: Using a modern, maintainable CMS (WordPress + DIVI in this case) — allowing Running Rail to update content, add case studies or expand their services without redesigning the entire site.
What Worked Well – And Why This Project Matters
-
Bridging technical complexity and clarity: This site takes a technically detailed business and presents it in a clear and accessible way — crucial in engineering and infrastructure sectors where trust, clarity and compliance matter.
-
Brand positioning: Running Rail now has a strong digital presence that matches its real-world professionalism, helping differentiate it from smaller subcontractors or “mom-and-pop” firms.
-
Scalability: The structure and build allow for future growth — whether that means showcasing projects, uploading certificates, or adding new services.
-
Conversion potential: With clear CTAs and contact information, the site is primed to turn visitors into enquiries — a key goal for any B2B-oriented engineering firm.
My Role & Contribution
As the designer/developer I:
-
Translated the company’s background, services and values into a clean, modern layout.
-
Structured content to be immediately understandable — even for readers outside the rail or engineering sector.
-
Ensured strong calls-to-action, making engagement simple for potential clients.
-
Built the site on WordPress using DIVI (matching my standard setup), giving Running Rail a platform they can easily manage going forward (content updates, new services, etc.).
